Mattie Giles, EdD

Dr. Giles received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Social Work from Howard University, Certificate in Advance Graduate Studies in Human Resources from the University of Maryland, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Supervision from Virginia Polytechnic Institution and State University.  She has also received training and certification in the following areas:

  • Train the Trainer for Peace Corps (domestic and internationally)
  • Train the trainer for the World Center for Development and Training
  • Foreign Student Orientation Facilitator for the BLS countries
  • Training of trainers for Department of Labor Academy
  • Evaluator for the Council International Programs
  • Evaluator for the American Council on Education – CREDIT
  • Evaluator for the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS)
  • Evaluator for the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (NCICS)
  • Evaluator for the Foreign Service Division, Department of State
  • Evaluator for the District of Columbia Education Licensure Commission

Dr. Giles is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of social work. She is a consultant for Anderson & Associates, the World Center for Development and Training, and the Department of Labor.  Each year, Dr. Giles spends three weeks in the Caribbean and Central America as a member of a training team for research on families and substance abuse.  She is professor emeriti with the Urban Affairs, Social Science and Social Work Department at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC.  She has served as the adjunct professor in the College of Human Ecology at the University of Maryland; George Mason’s University’s Social Work Program, and in the Continuing Studies Program at Georgetown University.  She currently teaches Ethics at the University of the District of Columbia’s Continuing Education Department and a course in the Human Services Program at the International Graduate University (DC).
